since i 1st got their credit cards in the early 2000s, i had never received their paper statements. phone call after phone call. letter after letter. still no statement in sight. luckily, i could depend on their online banking to do so, even though it's just for the previous few months. after i recently applied for their islamic card, suddenly i received my 1st paper statement ever, but without details of the other cards, which accounts i was about to terminate anyway, which are now already terminated. when i called them to inquire about my now receiving the paper statements, they told me that i never received them before because i had requested to put the statement mailing on hold, which i never did. now that the pending issue was settled, they started to talk about e-statement, environmental preservation and what-not. so, i signed up for one. it's nice to receive e-statements via email. but the paper statements keep on coming to my doorstep. as of now, i don't dare to complain for fear that i would not receive both instead. i'd rather shut my mouth up...

x is so addicted like an illegal drug! And that is considering that I've managed to stay away from the xx such as xxxx, etc even though my friends and relatives and families told me that they were soooo good... and addictive of course. I'm planning to focus on improving my writings and writing skills which I've abandoned for quite a while, and also to put my mind on my passion for music and musical instruments, and not to forget to improve my faith and religion life and ultimately please my Creator, Allah The Almighty. Though, I might come back if I think I could better manage (restrict?) my time using x. Thanks for being so successful in bringing many people closer together.

pockmarks / flower incident / anniversary

yesterday, i went to see a doctor to verify my chickenpox recovery status. sadly, the doctor said i'm still contagious to the people around me. though the blisters/pockmarks have all dried up, i still have to wait until all the dried-up blisters/pockmarks (scabs) peel themselves off from the skin. then only i can declare myself as a no threat to the public. not a public enemy no 1 anymore. this sunday, i'll go to the clinic again to get mc if i'm eligible for one, i.e. if i'm still a so-called plague. then, on tuesday evening, i'll visit the clinic again to confirm if i can go back to work on wednesday. fyi, yesterday, i've been on medical leave for 10 consecutive days (8 working days)!!!

yesterday was a special day for my wife & i. it was our 10th anniversary of our marriage. i tried to arrange for a few surprises for her. 2 worked flawlessly but 1 became a half surprise. in the morning (or is it afternoon?), i sent her a mms wishing her happy 10th marriage anniversary. before that, right after midnight of the historic day, i bought a facebook gift and sent the gift to her. a pair of virtual diamond earrings. (no money to buy the real ones). however, she only realized that once she's back from work (school) in the afternoon at around 4 pm. even way before that, on monday, i've bought a bouquet of roses from an online malaysian flower retailer (florist) and arranged for the roses to be delivered yesterday at 6 pm. since my house is located at a rather "remote" location, away from the "main civilizations", the charges for delivery/transport had to be equivalent to the cost of the flowers!!! the florist told me that their delivery guy was in chukai and that guy had to come or drive personally to my house in paka to deliver the roses to my wife. i was still ok with that. days passed by until yesterday. about 10-15 mins before 5 pm, the "delivery guy" called my wife informing her that she'd got delivery from a flower shop! and the "delivery guy" couldn't locate my house even based on the map that i drew using ms visio! what the heck! the surprise was spoiled and went down the drain since my wife sensed that i must have had arranged for some flowers to be delivered to her. she decided to go meet the "delivery guy" to pick up the flowers herself. while she's away, i sms'd the online florist informing that the delivery guy should have called me for direction, so as to preserve the element of surprise. got the reply from the florist that the "delivery guy" was actually a taxi driver!!! what??? so unprofessional!!! after paying so much for the delivery charges, this was what i got!!! after my wife came back with the bouquet of roses, i found out another surprise! the wish card that came with the flowers denoted that it was from kt! and not chukai! what the heck again? my wife told me that it was an old taxi driver who delivered the roses. on the street! then, the kt florist called my wife to confirm receipt. my wife took the opportunity to complain about the situation but the florist simply put all the blames on the taxi driver! later, the online florist called my wife and apologized. she also promised to send her a surprise gift in a week. finally, the online florist called me and apologized. i asked her why from kt & not chukai? she told me that it's actually from kt. well, i didn't really mind from where as long as my wife got the flowers intact. then, the online florist admitted that it was so unprofessional for them to engage a taxi driver to deliver those roses. and the fact that my wife had to go out to pick up the flowers herself! the florist repeated her promise to send a surprise gift for my wife in a week. let's just wait & see. if the surprise gift pleases my wife & i, i will keep quiet forever. if not, i'll announce to the world so that everybody else will not buy from the online florist due to unsatisfactory and unprofessional services. at the end of the day, despite the incident, my wife was so happy to get those roses. so, the hubby was happy as well lah!

at night, my wife & i, plus our 2 daughters, went out for dinner at kdrp. we didn't know where else to go. even though i was still "a plague to the society", i wouldn't want to miss that special occassion! it was just a normal dinner with the added fact that it's on the day (or night) of our 10th marriage anniversary...

well, maybe we can consider the trip to perth this feb to be the grand anniversary present & celebration as well as honeymoon for both of us & our kids, since we didn't really go for any special honeymoon when we 1st got married...

may our marriage last forever in this world and continue in the hereafter.

so, the HEREAFTER has unveiled its FANGS afterall... as people are slowly moving towards being more ISLAMIC and embracing the ISLAMIC way of life, help from the ALMIGHTY will be inevitable. hopefully, i will still live to see the day when ISLAM thrives again...and i'll be part of the best thing.

yesterday, the doctor gave me additional days of MC, until thursday. my body is still choke-full of chickenpox spots/blisters/pimples/pockmarks. since i'll also be on al on sunday, i'll only be back in the office on wednesday next week. but it's not really good news for me because for the past few and upcoming days, i've been and will be living off breads and quaker oats and the likes. tried meat/beef on 2 occassions but retreated immediately after our babysitter told my wife that beef would only enhance the generation of pus in those blisters!

so, what do i do at home to fill my spare time? (plenty of it)! be a pc/internet servant. watching tv/movies. listening to songs. read books. everything within the reach of my hands except going out... :(

i really, really, really can't believe it!!! i'd been diagnosed with having chickenpox since tuesday for the 2nd time after more than 20 years! i 1st got it when i was in primary school. when i was about 11-12 years old! then, for more than 20 years, i had been assured that i wouldn't get it anymore. but, look at me now! human promises are not always true. only PROMISES of ALLAH and MUHAMMAD, ALLAH's LAST MESSENGER have come true, are true & will come true. stay tuned!

it all began last saturday in the afternoon when i started feeling cold and having headache and had to wear my jacket. went to a clinic and got some paracetamols. took 1 of those at midnight. on sunday, i felt great at work! around 4 o'clock, started to feel dizzy again & for the rest of the night at home with a slight fever. on monday, the fever & headache really squeezed my head & weakened my body that i had to take a break by resting in the 1st aid room before lunch. just took 2 slices of bread for breakfast & 3 more for lunch. after work, rushed to bandar baru kerteh & mesra mall & back & forth to ensure i've got all the cheese cakes, satays and necessary stuff for my daughter's birthday celebration on that night. i had to put on my sweater. at mesra mall surau, while performing the ablution for maghrib prayers, my whole body started to shiver uncontrollably and the shivering continued even while i was performing the prayers! back at home, the celebration went smoothly with minor flaws but (i think) everybody was happy & satisfied. after the event, i helped my wife to set things in order and after my (1st) part was done, since i was so exhausted, i went straight to sleep, complete in my work attire plus the sweater.

the next day, tuesday, i woke up late at around 7.15 am and missed my subuh prayers. (sadly, isya' the night before was also a gone opportunity). my wife & daughters were off to their intended destinations. i took my bath and once done, i noticed i had many spots on my body, at the front and back. thinking that it's another allergic problem, i called my boss informing her that i'd be going to the clinic 1st. i remembered that i'd been having the "same" allergic problem twice before (other than the persisting allergy to seafood problem that i'm having now). or so i thought...

the doctor inspected me & informed me that it's actually CHICKENPOX!!! i told her that i've had it ONCE. she said TWICE is possible. HUH! (not sure about THRICE OR MORE though). she gave me 6-day medical leave after i told her i was going for the company trip from friday-sunday, which effectively means i couldn't go! (my wife told me 6 days might not be enough. well, i can always go back to the clinic to get more. i'm sure my work colleagues are not in the mood to "can't wait to see me" anytime soon based on my current condition). back at home, i consulted a doctor friend on facebook. she told me that one could possibly get CHICKENPOX for the 2nd time if possibly the full immunity was not obtained during the first chickenpox infection, or possibly one's antibody is weak when the chickenpox viruses (they have their names which i don't bother to remember or write) attack for the 2nd time, or possibly the viruses are of the wild types, which would not spare (for the 2nd time) even those who have taken vaccination! yet, all are based on possibilities. no assurances. only ALLAH can give ABSOLUTE assurances: "Be!" - and it is!

well, here i am at home since tuesday. quarantined inside. no going outside. ingesting my medication. applying some of it all over my body. watching movies & tv. sitting in front of my pc. surfing the net. reading books (and pc). eating, with limitations. etc.

everytime i mention the name of my 2nd daughter, WAN NUR IZZAH, many will associate it with that other NURUL IZZAH, the daughter of ANWAR IBRAHIM. i'd like to stress once and for all that my daughter's name had NOTHING TO DO with NURUL IZZAH, ANWAR IBRAHIM, or PKR! IZZAH simply means KEGAGAHAN, KEUTAMAAN. in english, it's HONOR, POWER, GLORY, MIGHT. it's also worth to note that the name was chosen by my wife & i agreed to it.

despite this disclaimer, that doesn't make my wife & i less an opposition...

AT LAST!!! after 3 years (or even more than that), we have managed to do a rather proper celebration for our daughter's birthday. previously, it was either not held at all, or only held amongst her small family of 3. this year, somehow, after the new baby arrived last year, we had managed to squeeze our tight schedule to do it. we'd invited all of our neighbors, our babysitter & family, and Athirah's closest friend & family. thanks to all who came. a special thanks to my wife for all the hard work and making it happen. and thanks to my wife again for the cleaning up work while i was fast asleep. i was not feeling well since saturday afternoon. (more about that in the next post about chicken). for some reasons, i really would like to make the simple celebration a reality for my daughter. maybe because of the lack of 1 after so many years. and maybe because of the arrival of Izzah. photos can be viewed HERE!

1TB...when the world is not enough

while in kl last week for an iso9001:2008 transition training, i made use of the plenty of the spare time before & after training going to low yat plaza. i had been eyeing a 1TB storage: Maxtor Basics External Desktop Hard Drive 1TB. buy it i did. for rm350. (plus other accessories for my pda phone). now, i'm using it strictly for backup purposes. the whole of my pc's data & info have been backed up into it. those from my wife's notebook have been as well. every few days, i'll do incremental backups to make sure the data & info are updated. so far, i'm happy & satisfied to have that thing. at least, if something happens to all those precious photos, hopefully I can just restore them from the backup. if both got corrupted, what can I do? well, even if you print all those photos, they can still get damaged as time goes by...

nothing lasts forever in this temporary world.

been a while. if a month can be considered a while. i've acquired 2 of the 3 droolings. 1 almost 2 years ago. 3 recently. 2 on the way. i've added my new baby on board to perth as well. and bought travel insurance for the whole family for the trip. the only thing not done yet is accommodation reservation.

my wife's bro got engaged recently to a gal from the northern part of the state. end of last year, which was only last month. PHOTOS HERE. 2 days before that, he treated many of his siblings and his mother (my mom-in-law). that includes me & my family as well. it's his first salary after graduating. working as a teacher. got posted to kapit, sarawak.

a day before my wife's bro's engagement, my family & i went to kb to savor kb mall. when sending my bro to kb a few weeks b4, we only managed to walk around the mall for a brief moment and we were amazed at the grand and majestic view of the complex at that 1st time. so, the plan that 2nd time was to really savor kb mall. however, from 6.30pm until 10.30pm, we had finished touring all the shops and found nothing interesting anymore. we decided to just spend 1 night in kb. in the "old" nora baru. there's a story behind nora baru as well but let me just let it be part of my memory. my tacit knowledge. and my wife's as well.

my bro got a new permanent/government job (if he can strive for making it permanent). no more staying up late with friends outside his/my pa & ma's house until 3-4 in the early morning. no more illegally modifying friends' and strangers' biking machines. good for him. so, like my wife's bro, my bro also treated most of his siblings & his mother (my mom, of course). his 1st "proper job" salary. scenario#1: i went to that tiger bank to withdraw some money. a nice young man, who happens to be maybe the son of a van driver old man, with whom a bangladeshi came to the bank in the city, approached me asking for my help to guide the bangla how to do balance inquiry for his savings account and later deposit some cash into the account. guide him i did. including waiting for him queueing.

scenario#2: i went to that Islamic bank to pay for my credit card balance. a man at the cash deposit machine beside me asked me how to pay for his car loan. show him i did. including canceling my own not-yet-in-progress transaction just to go to the main menu to see what's on it.

scenario#3: i went to that allegedly widest-nationwide-coverage mobile telecommunication company to pay another half of my bill amount which i mistakenly paid only the first half about 2 weeks ago. a lady asked for my help for her to pay her or his man's bill using his personal cheque/check because she and her man didn't know how to do it. help her i did. however, she had to first write the name, mobile phone no., contact no. and payment amount on the back of the check. she went back to her car to get the required info from her man. and she informed me that she still required my help. so, i had to wait for 5 to 10 minutes and once everything was ready, i helped her how to do it.

there goes my day of charity...all happening within 1 hour or so...

got a call from my wife yesterday that her brother's car parked in front/beside royal guest house, kota bharu was stolen. my wife & i, our children, my mother & my brother just came back from spending the night there last saturday!

my wife also told me that the area where her brother parked his car is a black area. many or several cars have been stolen there. royal guest house should have given ample warning or reminder to their guests. although it's not their legal obligation to do so, it is indeed their social obligation in order to serve their customers better.

my wife's brother was staying there to attend a course and today was his last day there. he had reported the theft to the police. i can't imagine if it happened to me. i hope it wouldn't...

just came back from a 2-day training in the country's capital. my 1st non-it training after being out of it altogether. it's not bad after all. very interesting. should i be happy, anxious or afraid of upcoming challenges?

while in the country's capital, paid a visit to my sister's house to see her newborn baby girl born about a week ago. my mother was there as well with another sister's daughter. congrats to my sister (the former). was i supposed to take the commuter train in the 1st place?

while in the country's capital, my pda phone's charger became defective. midvalley megamall came to the rescue. bought a new compatible charger for rm35. it's the 3rd one already including the 1st original charger that came with the original packaging box. how long will the 3rd one last now?

ramadhan came & went away. eidul fitr came & went away. "bercukur" (shaving) came & went away. aqiqah came and went away. the weekend before aqiqah, for the first time in my life, i had the chance to practise my skill on using a jumper cable from my waja's battery to my wife's city's one, courtesy of my wife's brother who completely drained the battery out. thanks to the honda service personnel who's willing to entertain my call late at night & helped me on the line, i had to disarm the sophisticated alarm & managed to bring the car back home, of course driven by my bro-in-law. [2 days later the car wouldn't start & but that honda service personnel came on site & solved the problem & reactivated the alarm at no cost at all]!!!

well, it's official & it's been 3 weeks already. me out of it to q. this week is actually the 4th week but it's raya holiday week for me! no more company handphone (line) for me. my internet access right was cut down initially but i re-requested for a new one a few days after that. my task during the last fasting month was just to read & read & read iso documents/procedures... (yawn) and no coffee was allowed (yawn). many people still called & consulted me for IT-related matters, issues & problems. i also had to update some audit findings & do some work related to audits. that's all there is.

(ed. a.k.a. welcome to the "wild world")! i was born on 28 september 2008. equivalent to 28 ramadhan 1429. it was a fine sunday evening. the time was 6:16 pm. i was 3.8 kg at that time. my length was 56 cm. my head size was 36 cm. i'm a baby girl! my mama had to have caesarean section in order to let me out into the world. i'm still at the only specialist hospital in kt & terengganu now. with my mama. and papa as well. this is our 2nd (ed. boring) night. papa, don't forget to settle the fitrah tithe for me since i was born way before the maghrib time of 1 syawal 1429 (30 september 2008). i know that mama & papa have thought of a nice name for me. so, papa, don't forget to register me at the nearest national registration department. when you have the time. when mama & i have been discharged. my grandparents, most of my uncles, of my aunties, and of my cousins, have come to pay me a visit. my 8-year old sister, the only sister, and the only sibling, so far, has come as well. twice. last night. and tonight. aren't you interested to know my name? the name is wan nur izzah.

Don’t pronounce everything!

It is very common not to hear some of the vowels when we pronounce some words. These are called unstressed vowels.

A MALAYSIAN man who was on holiday at his sister’s in Toronto asked for an envelope from his niece but she could not comprehend what he wanted.

He repeated the word “envelope” a few times, yet his niece did not know what he wanted so he enunciated, “En-ve-luhp.”

But the Canadian-born girl was still puzzled so she went to ask her Malaysian-born mother what her uncle wanted.

The lady said, “He’d like an onv-luhp.”

What had confused the niece was that her uncle was unaware of the unstressed vowel in the word envelope and had pronounced it giving the word three syllables instead of the usual two.

What are unstressed vowels?

It is very common not to hear some of the vowels when we pronounce some words. These are called unstressed vowels. Such a vowel is shown in dictionaries as an italicised schwa or a bracketed schwa which tells you that the vowel is not usually pronounced in the word.

Here are examples of some words with the unstressed vowel missing in each word.

I have referred to Modern Spoken English by Thomas Lee Crowell, Jr (Late Professor of English, Columbia University and Hunter College), Listening to Spoken English by Gillian Brown (Professor of English as an International Language, University of Cambridge) and An Introduction to the Pronunciation of English by A.C. Gimson (formerly Professor of Phonetics, University College, London).

a week in news

i've completed my root canal therapy sessions. the last & final one was
done last sunday. so that 1 particular tooth o' mine is now officially
dead, endorsed by the dentist. the swollen gum is still there. the
dentist told me that the swell will go away after 2-3 weeks, failing
which i would have to make another trip to the clinic. no mc this time
for the rct. i went to work as usual in the morning and took some time
off for about 2 hours for the treatment. got a timeslip & tried to pass
it to hr but they said it's not necessary. so the timeslip went down the
trashbin.

now, i'm in the country's capital. yesterday's morning, i attended the so-
called court convened meeting with the house developer in order to
achieve amicable settlement between them and the purchasers (me included)
via a newly proposed scheme under section 176 of an act which name i
forgot. the gist of the meeting was that the buyers have no choice but
to accept the proposed scheme, or else there's a risk that the project
might be totally abandoned. well, what to do? oh, the letter from the
developer was actually sent to my previous rented house. luckily, the
current tenant still kept my letter even after almost 1 month. there are
still good people left in this world.

my ex-secondary schoolmate came down to kerteh from kl. so, my other ex
-schoolmates & i took the opportunity to hold a mini gathering. 5 of us
having dinner. on him. thanks a lot friend. you're welcome to come
down to kerteh as often as u like. snapped a few photos to cherish the
occasion & the memory. i was planning to go back home 1st, take a bath &
change my dress but my office colleague's car would not start. being a
good friend and gentleman, i and several others stayed & became a
mechanic wannabe until her husband arrived with a new battery. well,
that wouldn't help neither. in the end, they went back with the
husband's friend's car with which the husband came together initially. i
don't know what happened and forgot to ask but the car was not there
early in the morning on the next day. maybe it had been arranged to be towed away for repair
to a workshop. due to that unexpected incident, i had to go for dinner
in my work uniform.

another ex-secondary schoolmate who's been in ireland all this while,
being a doctor/medical specialist there, flew down to malaysia. a few of
my friends & i planned to meet him during dinner (or lunch) at a hotel in
kl. he'd be treating all of us. it's all been agreed upon via email.
while i'm in kl, i tried to contact him on his roaming irish mobile.
there was a dialing tone but he didn't pick up the call. i left a
voicemail and sent a sms but got no response as well. well, maybe we were not
meant to meet yet this time.

i've ordered 2 new "replacement" radiohead t-shirts. this time bigger in
size. based on waste's (as well as postal companies & customs & excise
departments's) previous performance, i should receive those shirts by the
end of this month. patience is a virtue.

press has at last been released officially in e format. in portable
document format. i mentioned in that email that comments & feedback are
welcome & should be directed to the editor. however, 1 of the 2nd
highest order of the execs in the company wanted us to correct 1 of the
fact errors in it immediately. so, i replied his email and cc'd to
relevant people that it's not appropriate to do so, providing him with
concrete reasons. corrections will be mentioned in the next release. if
not, the designer would have to sacrifice another weekend for press and
press release date would have to be postponed again. a never ending
story.

the by-election of the decade will be held this tuesday. it's a very
interesting development. for the better or worse? i believe everybody's hoping that it's for the better... well, maybe some are hoping for the worse but for them it's the better. i'd better stop now.

this kl house of ours is still not completed yet until today. supposed to be 2 & a half years ago. but it's been showing quite a good progress today. was told by the developer via the purchasers committee via the yahoo! group that it will hopefully be ready by end of this year or early 2009. was told also by the group that most have received a rather important letter informing us about the status/progress & containing a voting form asking us whether to agree to the new terms & conditions or not. [where's my letter? gotta call the developer asap]. was told that if we want the house to be completed asap, no legal action should be taken against the developer. was told that the max lad amount claimable is only 40%. i think that's better than nothing. on top of that, the house will be completed (hopefully) by the said date. it's better than if the house is not completed at all, and then with 0 lad. who could ask for more?

i've spent almost the whole yesterday until past midnight to finish up press, having some breaks here & there. what a relief it has been indeed! hopefully, no more comments requiring major changes to the whole structure of press. i can still bear with minor changes. at pasar malam (night market), met a futsal team member & was told that my team got the last, 4th place. well, if i were to join in, i don't think the team would win anyway.

today, i went for the first session of the reputably fearsome root canal therapy (that's what rct stands for officially) with the private dentist in my vicinity. not that bad an experience. no pain at all. though i could occasionally feel the tingling sensation during and quite a while after the procedure was finished. the dentist applied some "tampal" (filling?) to the drilled part/hole (at the back) of the affected tooth. i have to visit the clinic again 1 week from today for the 2nd session. back at home, did some readings on the net to know more about rct. i think today the dentist just did the cleaning part of it. for the 2nd session, i think she's gonna fill up the root canal (void) with a special material. i hope the 2nd one will be the last. do u wanna know more about rct? do the research yourself. at the end of the day, the most important thing is i've got my 2nd mc during my working lifetime with the company so far. no more scanned image this time.

akad nikah (marriage bind)

at last, i've finished reformatting my wife's damn-slow notebook. she can use it already for her daily routine tasks. just got some minor things to be set up. some minor apps. mostly complementing software.

am i suited for the corporate world? i don't know anymore. i'm not really an overtly ambitious kind of guy. i can do my work. work which i'm supposed or assigned to do. but that's just about it. sometimes, i think i should've been in art/literature stream during my school days instead of science stream. based on my current interests, that's what i should be. but that change of direction might trigger a change of heart. who knows...

as a terengganuvian who's proud of his heritage, i'm lucky to have found these 2 terengganu-related pages. see GUiT (growing up in trengganu) & kecek-kecek on the link (out of this) section on the left. though i'm proud to be part of a developing (kuala) terengganu, deep inside my heart, i wish it does not (develop too much). in the name of modernization at the expense of the commoners who don't benefit much economically. i do miss kt of yore...

i've bought GUiT blook & haven't finished reading it yet. but i surely can imagine (though not relate to) how my parents & grandparents lived during that "lesser" time. lesser by today's standard. i can't wait to boast about my newly acquired old knowledge to them. being the kind of folks who don't talk that much, maybe they will reveal more of their past once the fire has been ignited...and "break on through to the other side"...

pirus IS a color indeed

yes it is. previously i googled it as "pirus color" but couldn't find any reference to pirus as a color. just now, i googled for "warna pirus" & eureka! i've found it! a few websites (indon i believe) mention pirus as the color of greenish blue (biru kehijau-hijauan). i guess it's the common & well-known color of turquoise (or pirus in indon, or fairus/fairuz in persian/malay), which can exist in different variety of colors. i told my wife about this & she said she HAS known all along & all this while that pirus IS indeed a color! some of her baju kurungs are even pirus in color!!! the closest reference which i've never asked before. knowledge at your fingertip(s). (that reminds me of the tagline by a software house company i used to work with: solution at your fingertips). from the internet &/or your closest whoever. that tagline definitely requires some kind of revisions...at least for me...

the highest order of the execs in the company asked me if i'd like to rekindle my performance at the upcoming golf tournament. the extended version of it. time-wise. so many factors to consider. my pregnant wife whose due date is around the corner. her limitation & strain in traveling. esp on a long journey. the limited time (to practice). selection of (appropriate) songs. all those big guns. i play guitar & sing to please myself & not others. i listen to songs which would please me & me alone. i don't care if people don't like those songs. would i succumb to such a pressure to become so-called mainstream? popular? poppy? but, performing wild world reflected the attempt to become one. no surprises not to become one. wah! i talk like i a lock star oledi!

(actually, my real intention is to ask whether i should praktis or not for the futsal tournament this sat. i despise the organizer bcoz i've to buy my own futsal shoes. i've told them that i'm wearing my old tennis shoes. in the worst case scenario, i'll be disqualified & that's fine with me. it will be better & well-spent if i donate the rm to masjid pas ustaz awang in batu 6. i'm not even sure if i'm fit to play with me having a swollen gum even though it's getting a little bit better/smaller now. if someone accidentally or intentionally hits me at that weakest spot, it will surely grow bigger & that would dash my hope of getting an rct asap). to q or not to q. at school or at a bus stop or while waiting for a taxi, you must q. i'll just let nature take its course. nature of course being all revolving things around me, past, present & future, which have been decided upon by the divine power.

why? because it's about my record-breaking mc. to be exact, the story behind it. the pain of my swollen gum just will not go away. the dentist that i saw today couldn't perform the root canal treatment (rtc) yet because she had to make sure that no cyst development is taking place at the root of my tooth. so, after making sure that i got the mc, i had to go to a dental clinic in kerteh to have my gum/tooth x-rayed. looks like there's no cyst yet. so, i went back to the 1st clinic in paka and after checking the x-ray result, she told me to finish the medication which her locum doctor had prescribed yesterday & especially to finish the antibiotics & to wait & see after a week if the swell would go away. if it does, i have to call the clinic on saturday to set for an rtc appointment on sunday. if not, i have to see the dr again after a few days from today for a different treatment. i must scan into a soft copy that record-breaking mc...

at last, i managed to finish up press at about 2.30 am ++ today/this very early morning...what a daunting task...at least, my mc is helping me to get a well-deserved rest at home...an Allah-given miracle...

time-consuming & swollen gum

designing is a very time-consuming task. why do i always get assigned that kind of task? the last time, it was video editing. i had to do it at home as well. every night. no weekend with family until the event was over. that one even consumed my PERSONAL COMPUTER's CPU & RAM power extensively. not to forget the electricity bill associated with it.

my gum has been swollen since the last few days. my chin got knocked by my acoustic guitar. that led to my gum to get swollen until today. the story goes a long way before that. about 10 years ago in 1998. i had an accident. i was riding my bike & my then pregnant wife was the pillion rider. i was sending her to her school: she was a teacher there. it's near hukm and sekolah alam shah (old location) in cheras. from the distance, i could see the pedestrian traffic light was red & the cars were queuing & waiting for the traffic light to turn green again. so, i took the chance to speed up a little bit. normally, i always glanced at the left junction for any vehicle coming into the main road but somehow, i did not do so at that time. a van came out from the junction & i hit it right at the driver's door side. i fell down & my face hit the road surface. luckily, the impact had been cushioned by the visor. the visor got detached anyway & my chin hit the road anyway. my wife fell down on her buttock. thank you Allah. her buttock had been cushioned by her own bag. mind you, she was 4-5 mth pregnant at that time, carrying our current daughter inside her uterus. the van driver sent us to hukm. the mother & baby were ok. i had to have my injury/wound treated with, if i'm not mistaken, 14 stitches on my chin at hukm. feeling & thinking that we were guilty, we paid the van driver for the damage to his van. we had to repair our bike as well. although lately my wife argued that actually the van driver was at fault for not looking properly at the traffic before venturing out from the junction, what is past is past & we should just consider the payment as charity.

and my front upper right incisor tooth had been traumatized as well. the dentist that i visited advised me to perform root canal but i did not do so until today. once in a while, especially after heavy iced drinking, the gum holding that tooth would ache. however, last year, after so many years, it swelled so bad that it started to accumulate pus in it & i had to have the pus removed. i was even advised to do x-ray & based on the result, i was told that that tooth of mine had already died and it's better for me to do root canal. i still refused to do so. my argument was that 10 years ago, i was told that a dead tooth's color will fade to blackish in color after about 5 years. similar to the bones of a dead animal left to rot on the surface of the earth. however, that tooth of mine still looks ok even after the 5-year "deadline" has passed. and it's still as solid as a rock, so to speak. (forget about the occasional gum ache).

back to the present. my gum has been swollen since the last few days. my chin got knocked by my acoustic guitar. that led to my gum to get swollen until today. this morning, i went to see a local dentist in my vicinity. at last, i requested for a root canal but he said he couldn't do it. the owner doctor can but not today but tomorrow morning. i think he's just a locum. that's why he couldn't do it. since i couldn't bear the pain anymore, i couldn't even smile properly but sheepishly only, i agreed to have a root canal treatment (rct) tomorrow morning. i guess i have to break my record of not having any mc for the last 4 years in the company.

damn!!! i had spent too much time writing this. gotta continue designing press for the company...

i receive instructions not only from the bosses but also from the users. such as the nature, or befittingly, curse of a technical support personnel. though it does not really fit my title at work, that's what i have to do. like i have a choice. i'm an all-rounder. jack of all trades, master of none (really? really). i have to make arrangements for maintenance, trainings, enhancements, renovations (related to my field of work but once totally unrelated!), etc. not only i have to manage homo sapiens who, or deservedly, which operate on the basis of lust & unreasonable, absurd & irrational thinking, but also i have to manage machines which operate on the basis of zeros & ones. they say the latter are stupid but stupid is as stupid does. most of my days are spent on a virtual horizon. most of my days are spent deciphering email content & letting go of email bow string (meaning shooting out email gokdengik). i have to manage projects & projects & projects & projects & projects & projects & projects & the list goes on & on & on & on & on & on & on & finally off. being a jack of all trades, more often that not, i can't help but be a manager for many projects all at once. i do not normally carry work back home or beyond work but work follows me around. anywhere, anytime, anyhow, anybody, anyone. in short, anything. anyway, anymore? homo sapiens mentioned previously include internal, external, & if these 2 words ever existed, intranal & extranal. sounds like anal to me. this merits slander of not just the decade but also century or millennium or ketak dunia. part of my job scope is to attend to problems. but there are too many problems for me to handle alone. yes, practically alone. problems are aplenty. and they just won't go. this problem. that problem. these problems. those problems. his problems. her problems. their problems. compounded problems. very problematic. gotta solve problems. gotta troubleshoot problems. being a designer is not an easy job. entrusted with the job, of using own creativity, but the decision always lies with those who are totally blind with regards to design. those who have no taste at all in art & design. or those who think they do when in fact they don't. a bunch of hypocrites. blinded by ego. egoistic maniacs. this is not the end of it all yet.

i wish the beatles would say that to me... well, the fact that my wife & daughter wished that (of course not exactly like the title) is way much better than if the beatles do. so, here i am getting older by the day...

so many things happened in the last 3 weeks that i don't know what to write (???). i'll try my best to write anyway even though it will not really be in the exact chronological order. a half bus load of my colleagues & i went to muddy estuary to attend this event organized by dosh to honor companies & organizations which are proven to practice safety at work. the company won stylishly for the 2nd consecutive year in its category. so, the company rewarded all staff with a token of appreciation in the form of monetary value. i went there as one of the pressed press press members. in fact, i was the only member who went. what i did was mostly took photos. talking about press, it's due on the 30th. supposedly in its e-press incarnation. i don't have to contribute any article except quiz materials. but i have to design the final look. in 2-3 days from today. what a wonky idea. as usual, i'll try my best... lastly, have i decided on q? you find it out yourself... no more work talk!

on 1 of the weekends, my wife & i were having a "feasting party." to celebrate & thank God for the precious.

on the weekend after that, i acquired a japanese fender stratocaster + amp + hard case + accessories. just wanna make sure i'm satisfied & the new guitar is well protected at all times. also bought another hard case for my existing acoustic guitar for long lasting protection. what to do? it's 1 of my extreme hobbies according to my wife which i've been suppressing for quite sometime (years!) & now it has no choice but floats to the surface...

kpi w/o k & i and slander of the decade

i won the 1st prize. out of 5 contestants. the 1st 1 marvellously sang a hindi song though i hate hindi songs & movies. i was the 2nd 1 to perform. the 3rd 1 did this rather interesting bollywood line dancing, though...you can guess what i'm about to say. the 4th 1 did a somehow miserably failed stand-up comedy. the 5th 1 sang a nasyeed song. (i thought he could sing better). i was the greedy 1 with 2 songs performed acoustically using my acoustic guitar. at least that's what kak ogy said that night. the rehearsal in the afternoon helped a lot in improving my performance. however, i did make a few mistakes. during the initial start-up and music bridge of the 2 songs. everybody in the co was surprised that i could sing & play guitar. in the days after that, i've sort of become an internal superstar. now, i can somehow relate to how the actual celebrities out there feel being famous having no privacy and all that...

long time no post

my oat resolution didn't really work out well as i had anticipated. don't put the blame on me. blame it on peer pressure & free meals.

the last few days had been some very hectic days, work-wise. had to stay back until night to make sure the project could be completed by the end of the week. it did minus some minor things to be done. i'll be sure to apply for the replacement leave entitlement. 3 days in total. yahoo!

got the guitar strings replaced with new ones at density studio, kerteh. the old ones had been attached to the guitar for so long, i think 2 years, that their tones had become dull. definitely not suited for a stage performance. the new ones are more suited for an electric guitar. at first, it felt awkward to play. but after a while, it felt & feels ok. at least, it won't hurt my fretting fingers that much.

there's gonna be a rehearsal for the talent competition in the afternoon before the dinner night. those involved can be dismissed early from work. yahoo! i'm glad that i can now also adjust the guitar & mic sound/volume to the optimum so that they are equally audible to the audience & 1 won't dominate over the other.

q oat dinner

yesterday, i've managed to execute my new resolution: having oat as my lunch at the workplace. i also had a very light breakfast: a 60-sen chocolate-flavored bread. bought 1 for my daughter too on the way to the office. throughout the day, i always felt hungry. so, i just grabbed light snack & fruit here and there in between meals to fill up my raging stomach. i hope i'll be persistent in continuously executing this resolution. fear no internal & external factors!

so, should i go to q or not? still quite it-related. to expand dms & beyond. is it a better prospect for me? i had a so-called slow talk with the q boss. i've got roughly 1 week to decide whether it's a go or no go. maybe i should follow my wife's advice to "seek" divine advice & help by performing istikharah solat. i've never done it so far throughout all my life. it's high time...

at home, still practicing for the performance. 2 of my left hand fingertips are aching and a little bit swollen and i couldn't really press & hold the guitar strings that well. i think i've been practicing very heavily since the last 1 week or so. i should have been resting for a few days now to let my fingertips to cure properly. maybe i should go see a doctor as well... the most important thing to do is that i've gotta reserve my energy for the actual show. oh, got the info from someone that ogy is gonna be the mc for the dinner. i'm gonna die. afraid of her famous lightsaber (laser) mouth...
